Princess Kate's bargain Zara earrings worn to last month's BAFTAs took the fashion world by storm. Predictably, the £17.99 gilded floral pair sold out almost immediately (cue an onslaught of new listings at almost 10 times the original price), which was unfortunate news for fashion fans.
On the other end of the spectrum, the affordable earring champion eschewed her bargain buy in favour of a pair that are virtually priceless.
On her most recent royal engagement, Princess Kate attended the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey wearing sapphire earrings that originally belonged to Prince William's mother Princess Diana.

The princess and her husband joined the reigning monarch King Charles III who paid tribute to his "beloved mother" via a speech. King Charles described how Commonwealth Day was a moment of pride for the late Queen Elizabeth who "dedicated her long and remarkable life" in service to the "Commonwealth family".

Princess Kate looked elegant in a printed two-piece by London-based label Erdem. She wore a navy jacquard peplum jacket featuring a botanical-inspired white print and a matching midi skirt. The mother-of-three teamed her refined skirt co-ord with several navy-hued accessories.
She turned to her beloved suede pumps by Gianvito Rossi, a sleek clutch by Emmy London, cashmere gloves by Cornelia James and a bespoke wide-brimmed hat by Philip Treacy.

The princess extended her blue colour palette into her jewellery choices via diamond and sapphire drop earrings. The pair held a strong sentimental value since they originally belonged to Princess Diana. Each earring features two cabochon sapphires, surrounded by 17 diamonds.

Princess Diana turned to the jewels repeatedly wearing them at the 1996 Met Gala, at The White House when she famously danced alongside John Travolta, and with her sapphire choker necklace for a performance of The Phantom of the Opera to name but a few occasions.
Princess Kate was gifted the earrings by Prince William shortly after they got married in 2011 and has cherished them, wearing them over the years on special occasions, now including the 2023 Commonwealth Day Service.
