Gwyneth Paltrow has barely been out of the headlines this week – in case you weren't aware let us update you: the Hollywood screen star has been appearing in court over a 2016 ski collision.

The high-profile legal battle took place in Park City, Utah, and late on Thursday evening news broke of the verdict – the Goop founder was deemed not at fault for the accident which allegedly left retired optometrist Terry Sanderson with multiple injuries.

Gwyneth Paltrow's now viral courtroom glasses

As expected, internet jokesters have been working overtime to churn out the memes, but the fashion sphere has been equally encapsulated by the Shakespeare in Love actress' uber chic courtroom outfits.

Her gold, wire-framed aviator glasses practically flew off the shelves – eyewear label Caddis' Metamodernist Scout design FYI – and sparked a conversation about Gen X women opting for the flattering shape (Brooke Shields, Jennifer Aniston and Demi are all avid aviator fans). Some took great pains to draw comparisons between the lifestyle guru's eyewear and those of notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, but by and large, Gwynnie's glasses were a huge hit among the fashion set.

Gwyneth Paltrow donned a blue velvet blazer for the final day of the court battle

Refusing to lose her style momentum, Gwyneth finished strong on the final day of the court battle with an elegant piece of double-breasted tailoring that we can't stop thinking about. The 50-year-old looked characteristically chic in a sharp velvet blazer in a rich dark blue shade. While the label responsible for her exact jacket has not yet been identified, we have scouted out some seriously stylish alternatives if you're looking to recreate the A-lister's look.

The plush finish immediately brought another of Gwyneth's velvet style moments to the forefront of our mind – her red Gucci blazer worn to the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards that she actually re-wore in November 2021 to the luxury label's Love Parade fashion show (iconic behaviour, if ever we saw it).

Gwyneth styled her jacket with a pinstripe shirt done up all the way to the top and a pair of camel corduroy trousers, topping things off with her courtroom accessory must-have: her $325 Smythson notepad.
