Anne Hathaway is a force to be reckoned with in the style department – and she just delivered the sartorial proof. The Les Misérables actress has been at the top of her game recently, and her latest look is no exception. Kim Kardashian may have just said sorry for her cutesy Hello Kitty aesthetic worn out in Tokyo, but there was no apology necessary for Anne's purple monochrome moment that she donned for an event, also in Japan's capital.

Whereas Kim K favoured dusty pinks, Anne opted for a punchier hue that was infused throughout her entire outfit. Making a major colour statement at a press conference held to mark the opening of Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo, Anne, who is one of the Italian luxury fashion house's global ambassadors, championed electric purple.

Anne Hathaway rocked a purple monochrome moment

She wore a short-sleeved dress with a square neckline and a hem length which bypassed mini in favour of micro territory. Showing off her razor-sharp eye (Miranda Priestly would 100% approve), Anne schooled us in the ultimate fashion-girl style hack: matching her tights to her dress.

The Devil Wears Prada actress deployed some colour theory by opting for a harmonious shade (a hue that sits next to the original on the colour wheel) – the sheeny indigo of her dress paired perfectly with the rich violet of her opaques.

Bvlgari global ambassador Anne Hathaway matched her tights to her dress

Her coloured tights felt super playful and reminded us of the power of a monochrome-themed dopamine dressing moment. The psychological connection between bright colours and our happiness is nothing new, but now we have a handy alliterative term to describe exactly what it means to dress to boost your mood.

Purple was Anne's colour du jour, and she exhibited her commitment to her theme by extending the hue into her footwear. She opted for a glossy vertiginous pair of Valentino Garavani's Tan-Go Platforms, a vertiginous fashion set-adored style that features a slim logo-emblazoned ankle strap and thick soles.

Our main takeaway? Subtlety is officially overrated.
