Emily Ratajkowski is a go-to when we need a little off-duty, street style inspo. And the supermodel has just approved a Y2K jeans styling hack, giving it a 2023 It-girl refresh.

The podcaster stepped out in Manhattan riding her adorable son Sly around on his tricycle, wearing a cropped black denim jacket, a padded khaki Loewe cross body bag and a pair of baggy jeans, left undone, with the waistband turned down.

Schooling us in downtown dressing (as always), the 31-year-old’s combination posed a perfectly balanced silhouette – her snug figure-hugging black layer and snugly fitting jacket juxtaposed her majorly oversized jeans. Side note: baggy jeans are another cool-girl approved addition for summer for everything from the streets to the festivals, as proven by Hailey Bieber at Coachella.

Why are fashionistas turning their waistbands over, you may ask. Well, it’s actually a styling hack that has been used for decades: if people inherited a pair of hand-me-down jeans from perhaps a brother or father, turning up the waistband was the easiest way to make them fit. But, as with most major retro trends that were once totally uncool, the Gen-Z's of the fashion realm have taken to TikTok and labeled it the ‘foldover’ trend.

A pair of mens trousers from American brand Dickies have gone viral, with fashionista’s styling them with the waistband turned over. The hashtag #dickies874 currently has a whopping 112.1 million views.

It's clearly made its way from Gen-Z’s to the A-list street stylers as Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber and Dua Lipa have all been spotted playing with the trend.

When the likes of the above are all spotted wearing or doing the same thing, you know it’s a sartorial movement that will be sticking around for a while.

In case you're in need of even more supermodel-approved street style inspo: they have recently proven that Adidas Sambas are still the trainers to wear this spring, LA based brand Eterne is the new quiet luxury brand to have on you radar, and every supermodel is copying Princess Diana's favourite street style accessory right now.

To conclude: how do we dress like EmRata? Buy a pair of jeans that are one size too big.
