Gwyneth Paltrow was the only person we could talk about last month. Despite making the headlines because of her court case surrounding a 2016 ski collision, sartorial hawk-eyes (like ourselves) were more interested in her epic courtroom outfits, and becoming the face of quiet luxury in the process.
She made her first red carpet appearance since the trial last night and she’s back with a bang, using the most flattering styling hack of the moment: the upper midriff reveal. The Shallow Hal actress attended The Daily Front Row's 7th Annual Fashion Awards in Los Angeles awards on Sunday night wearing the most flattering nude two piece from her own clothing line, G.Label, boasting a sheer top with a high neck, elegant balloon sleeves and a opaque structured bandeau that finished at the top of the torso. She paired with matching, pleated wide leg trousers boasted an oversized fit with a high waist.

High (if you couldn’t already tell) is the key to nailing this trend. The dimensions of the crop on the midriff are further up than the traditional cropped look, covering the belly button and revealing more of the upper abs. Less daring than the Y2K trend that boasts low rise waistlines and belly buttons on show (we’re looking at you, Bella Hadid), the upper midriff trend gives a less revealing, more demure feel that is definitely for those who aren’t on board with retro trend (ahem..)
"This new way of baring your midriff is much more forgiving than the original crop top," explained Jill Wanless, Editor of Hello! Fashion "They cleverly show off the smallest part of your torso just under the bust. Keeping any untoned waistlines firmly under wraps."

Paltrow kept it super chic, wearing her hair in a low bun and donning pearlescent dangle earrings. The Oscar-winning actress and wellness guru was named 'Powerhouse Brand of the Year' for her clothing line, G. Label by Goop.
The White Lotus star Meghann Fahy also donned the trend at the awards, wearing a bralet and trouser two-piece layered with the coolest tuxedo gown also from Valentino.
Now this is a trend we are totally on board with.
