A wealth of new and resurfacing beauty trends have dominated in 2024; from Berry lips to sunset blush and satin skin. As we enter the colder months, beauty experts and research have shown that a select few are proving particularly popular for this holiday season.
Ariana Klein, makeup artist and co-founder of Beam (an upcoming immersive bespoke make-up store located in Belgravia) delves into five easy trend-led ideas for the ultimate festive holiday glam.
Berry Lips
This party season, let your lips do all the talking. In 2024, we've moved away from the traditional festive bright red hues in favour of deeper, berry-red shades. "Forget nude tones – 2024 was really the year that bolder lip colours came into their own and the popularity of sultry berry lips has blown up because they add instant glamour to even the most understated look, " explains makeup artist and beauty expert Ariana. "These hues walk the line between being sexy and sophisticated but also offer a hint of warmth, which is ideal for the winter climate."
And the statistics back up this trend; beauty influencer marketing data website, Traackr, found that creators and their audiences have shown an ‘increased interest in wine-coloured lip combinations.’ Compared to 2023, there has been an increase of 141% mentions, 19% engagements and 145% video views mentioning Berry tones. The platform reported that In the past year, more creators have mentioned lip products with berry-colored tones, or created lip combinations that are aimed at creating a pigmented berry look.
Blonzing
What do you apply first - bronzer or blush? According to TikTok, they should actually be applied at the same time. "Blonzing" is the social media-approved trend with a hybrid application technique that is meant to give skin a burst of natural glow and colour. To achieve this, you apply a brownish-copper cream blush where you would normally add bronzer so, around the forehead, on the apples of the cheeks and across the nose bridge.
Ariana says, "Blonzing creates a laidback look that feels effortless and natural. Because the hue has a way of melting into the skin, if you choose your shade cleverly, this can have a surprisingly flattering effect. For those short on time, it also allows you to combine your bronzer and blush steps into one time-saving step!" On TikTok, many people have been reaching for Huda Beauty’s Blush Filter, Rhode’s Pocket Blush in Toasted Teddy or Saie’s Dew Blush in Spicy to achieve these results.
Blush, Blush and More Blush
I think we can all agree that blush has been a defining makeup trend of the 2020s. This summer, sunset blush took centre stage, whilst Sabrina Carpenter's doll pink dewy blush became the most desired glam. On TikTok, #overblushing has nearly 40 million posts, while #blushblindness – the inability to understand when you have applied too much blush – continues to trend and has become a common term for beauty lovers. This winter, blush is going nowhere; in fact people are just reaching for deeper reds and berry tones whilst still trying to achieve a summer glow.
Ariana says, "Thanks to celebrity-led brands such as Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty and Hailey Bieber’s Rhode - both of which championed blush hugely - blush is no longer simply relegated to a makeup after-thought. Most brilliantly, as it experienced its renaissance as a must-have, an array of formulations have arrived on the market that ensures skin can get a subtle flush and appear more hydrated."
Metallic Eyeshadow
During party season, metallic touches never go out of style and this year is no exception. Ariana tells H! Fashion, "Reminiscent of the 90s and Y2K, where this was a key beauty trend, metallics are expected to dominate party looks this festive season. Whether you have warm or cool undertones to your skin, you can find a metallic to suit you. Gold, copper, and silver elements can also be incorporated into eye makeup looks and this trend is a fitting tribute to the glitz and glamour of the festive season."
90's Supermodel Glam
Often the viral makeup trends we tend to see on BeautyTok come and go. However, one trend that has transcended generations is the 90's supermodel glam. A soft, sultry look is key for the effortless 90's supermodel glam, so it's essential to use browns and bronze shades in your product choices.
Ariana tells H! Fashion, "Whether it is Britney Spears' bright silvery blue eyeshadow or Naomi Campbell's darker lipstick choices, the 90s' key looks have been resurrected thanks to contemporary IT girls such as Kylie Jenner." if you want to recreate this timeless glam, Ariana suggests: "One easy way to lean into the look is to wear a darker liner and a lighter tan lipstick, as envisaged by the decade’s go-to makeup guru, Bobbi Brown."
Whatever your plans this season, each and every one of these makup artist-approved hacks will be sure to bring festive flair to your routine.
