It's with a very, very happy heart that we can confirm that bright-coloured XL coats are officially in fashion.

From puffers to Afghans, extravagant outerwear is slowly starting to saturate the streets, particularly as the temperature drops.

One design that will forever remain a favourite among city-dwellers is the not-so-humble fur coat, extravagant and elegant in equal measure.

Fur coats also happen to be one of the most hotly debated garments in the grand fashion wardrobe. Fur coats are controversial due to concerns about animal cruelty, with fur-mongering for fashion deemed an unethical and inhumane practice by many.

Faux fur, while a cruelty-free alternative, is also a contested material, because it is often made from synthetic materials like plastic, contributing to environmental pollution. Critics argue that faux fur's environmental impact can be significant due to the production and disposal of non-biodegradable materials.

Then there’s the question of budget. Real fur costs real money, while faux fur is considerably cheaper. Choosing between real and faux fur could be just as much of a financial choice as an ethical one.

We’d always suggest shopping vintage when it comes to fur in order to get the best of both worlds. However, for those who would feel more comfortable sheathing themself in faux fabulousness look no further.

    Shrimps

Look lean and green in Shrimps' beautiful 'Dallas' coat. Featuring a traditional silhouette with punchy swathes of faux fur, this luxurious piece will bring the dopamine on even the dreariest of London days.

  • Zigzag Faux-Fur Coat

Missoni's striking outerwear never fails to pack a punch. Feel bright and brilliant in the house's chevron-printed faux fur number, which radiates lavish allure and opulent luxury.

  • Rosemary Coat

    Jakke

One of our favourite picks on the list is Jakke's 'Rosemary' coat, cut from the perfect shade of blossom pink. The eye-catching garment is the epitome of girlish glamour, wrapped up in a cosy winter-ready staple.

  • Faux Fur Coat

    Bimba Y Lola

Look dreamy in lilac with Bimba Y Lola's XL offering in a wisteria-inspired hue. Winter is never a drag when you have swathes of lavender fuzz to wrap up in, so add this show-stopper to your online bag before it's flown off the shelves.

  • Yawarr Faux-Fur Coat

  • Rangel Coat

    Dries Van Noten

A delightful blend of denim and faux fur, Dries Van Noten's 'Rangel' coat is placed at the top of our wishlist. Long in silhouette with a belted waistband, this piece will stop traffic. Suki Waterhouse would approve.

  • Pink Faux Fur Maxi Coat

    River Island

Searching for an affordable faux fur coat? Look no fur-ther (sorry) than River Island, whose fuzzy creation is set to tickle passersby pink. Pair yours with a mini dress, tights and boots for a splendid soirée look.
