Before Princess Eugenie moved out to live with her husband Jack Brooksbank at Ivy Cottage within the grounds of Kensington Palace, she and Princess Beatrice lived together at St James's Palace in London, where Beatrice still resides. The sisters shared the four-bedroom apartment for several years, and while they were originally living there rent-free, in 2012 it was decided that they would be required to pay for their living quarters.

According to Royal Central, Prince Andrew footed the bill of approximately £20,000 per year. That's approximately £1,600 per month which, when you think about it, doesn't seem quite that much for a royal residence with multiple bedrooms spread across four floors.

In fact, London estate agents Savills estimated that an average property in the St James's area of London would typically cost between £100,000 and £150,000 per year to rent.

The decision for the princesses to have to pay for their accommodation was due to the fact that they are not technically full-time working royals.
This is also the case for Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, who live at Apartment 10 inside Kensington Palace, although there was controversy when Buckingham Palace officials announced that the Queen was paying £120,000 annual rent from her own private funds for the couple to stay at their home.
Now, Princess Eugenie is living at Ivy Cottage with her husband Jack, and Beatrice remains at St James's Palace. It is unknown whether Beatrice and her new husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi will continue to reside at the property as newlyweds, but prior to their wedding, they spent isolation during the coronavirus pandemic at Edoardo's family home in the Cotswolds. After their ceremony, they headed to the south of France for a honeymoon.

Once Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had tied the knot, Kensington Palace confirmed where they would be living, so it would make sense for officials to reveal Beatrice and Edoardo's permanent marital home shortly.
