Karen Spencer, 50, often shares updates from her life at Althorp House with her husband Earl Charles Spencer, but on Monday, the Lady of the House shared some upsetting news from the stately home.

The mother-of-one took to Instagram stories to share a short clip of two geese with their mother, gliding along the Oval lake on the property, writing: "Only two of the Egyptian goslings made it, I'm afraid. The other two were eaten by a fox [crying face emoji]."

Sadly two small goslings didn't make it

The lake on the grounds of Althorp is very poignant for the Spencers as it is where the late Princess Diana is buried. Her body has been laid to rest on the centre island of the lake, which is only accessible by boat.

Visitors to the property in the summer are not allowed to make the trip across to pay their respects, instead there is an on-site temple where they can leave any cards and flowers for the late Princess.

Charles likes to spend time walking around the lake, and has shared a plethora of beautiful images of the scenery around it to his loyal Instagram following.

The Oval lake is an iconic sight

In Prince Harry's tell-all book Spare, he detailed how he and his wife Meghan Markle took the boat trip across to the island to pay their respects to his late mother.

All didn't go as planned during the secret visit as the small vessel apparently got stuck in the mud but luckily Diana's brother was on hand to give them "a little push" so they could make it to the land in the centre of the lake.

In fact, the Duke of Sussex even requested that he too would be buried there one day, but as the decision was not sanctioned he then chose Frogmore House, the estate in which Frogmore Cottage is located, where he once lived with Meghan and his son Archie.
