The official Instagram account of King Charles' Scottish home, Balmoral, has shared some major news with royal fans as well as giving a unique insight into a little-known aspect of the estate.
An image of the spectacular castle's foundation stone was accompanied by a caption which read, in part: "We are now open to the public seven days a week, with no admission fee or requirement to book tickets, until Sunday 5th November. Experience the peace, tranquillity and beauty of the castle grounds in all its Autumnal glory and remember to visit the foundation stone!"
However, the announcement came with a catch.
The caption went on: "Please be aware that there are no audio tours, mobility scooters or access to the ballroom at this time however the mews café and gift shop remain open to visitors from 10:00 until 16:00. Paid parking is available in the car parks, located next to the A93 at Crathie.
"For full details of our Autumn and Winter opening schedule please visit our website via link in bio." Explaining the history of the foundation stone in the post's photograph, it also read: "Did you know the foundation stone for Balmoral Castle was laid by Queen Victoria on 28th September 1853 and can be found at the foot of the wall adjacent to the West face of the entrance porch?
© Getty"Before the foundation stone was placed in position Queen Victoria signed a parchment recording the date. This parchment, together with an example of each of the current coins of the realm, was then placed in a bottle, inserted into a cavity below the site prepared for the stone."
Followers were delighted to read about this unusual piece of history, with one commenting: "I'm really curious about what the old House looked like. I gather it was more a blend of eras," and another agreeing: "Love to learn about unknown stories like this."

While Balmoral will be closed to the public after next month, the King's Norfolk estate, Sandringham, is gearing up for an influx of visitors, as announced at the weekend. The estate's official Instagram account posted a reminder to its Stories that the popular annual Luminate event will begin in the grounds on 11 November.
The spectacular outdoor light instalment will run until 24 December, after which the monarch and his family will gather to celebrate Christmas.
