Their marriage might not have gone the distance, but Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley remain on the best of terms – a fact they both paid testament to when word of their separation came to light. So why did the rock couple decide to part ways three years after they said 'I do'? It seems Avril's age might have had much to do with it.
As the Complicated singer wrote on her website at the time of the split, the pair have been "friends since I was 17, started dating when I was 19, and married when I was 21."
"She married too young and she finally realised that," one source told People. "Avril realised she needs her own life and needs to explore things without him." Another added that the break-up is not about Sum 41 frontman Deryck, 29, "wanting a kid, nor is she dating anyone else," following reports Avril is getting close to her friend Brandon Davis. Deryck has moved out of the couple's home in Bel Air, although the source added this was by mutual agreement.
