Childhood and Education
Nick Clegg was born in Buckinghamshire on January 7 1967. He attended the prestigious Westminster School before going on to study at the University of Cambridge, the University of Minnesota and the College of Europe.
Political Career
In 1999, Nick was elected MEP for the East Midlands and was Trade and Industry spokesman for the European Liberal Democrat and Reform group until 2004.
He was elected as MP for Sheffield Hallam in 2005, and served as Liberal Democrat Spokesperson on Europe and Shadow Home Secretary before becoming Leader of the Liberal Democrats in 2007. He served as deputy Prime Minister under Nick Clegg from 2010 untill 2015.
Career Outside of Politics
Nick has a professional background in journalism, consultancy and university lecturing. He also worked for 5 years at the European Commission, where his role included managing aid projects in Central Asia and trade negotiations with China and Russia. Since stepping down as deputy Prime Minister, Nick now works as the president of global affairs at Facebook's parent company, Meta.
Family Life
Whilst undertaking his second Master's Degree at the College of Europe in Bruge. Nick met his wife Miriam Gonzalez Durantez, a former Middle East expert at the foreign office and the daughter of an ex-conservative senator in the Spanish parliament. They tied the knot in 2000 and three children Antonio, Alberto, and Miguel followed.
