Kim Kardashian Early Life
Kim Kardashian was born on October 21, 1980, to future "momager" Kris Jenner and the late Robert Kardashian, a lawyer, most notably part of OJ Simpson's defense team. Her siblings are Kourtney Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, plus younger half-siblings Kendall and Kylie Jenner, from her mom's marriage to Caitlyn Jenner, who prior to their transition was known as Bruce Jenner.
The reality star was born and raised in Los Angeles – Calabasas, specifically – and first gained public attention as Paris Hilton's good friend and closet organizer. However, it was her sex tape with ex-boyfriend Ray J, filmed in 2003 but leaked in 2007, that in part was her claim to fame.
Kim Kardashian Professional Life
The year her sex tape leaked, her family's reality series Keeping Up with the Kardashians was born, placing Kim on the path to becoming one of the most famous and recognizable women in the world.
The show ran for 20 seasons until 2021, and saw the Kardashian family's ups and downs, family drama, and gave the internet unforgettable pop-culture moments like Kim taking selfies while her sister Khloe was going to jail, Kim crying after she lost a $72,000 diamond earring in the ocean (and then her sister Kourtney's iconic retort: "Kim, there are people that are dying,") her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries, and many, many more.
Beyond her reality show, which is now Hulu's The Kardashian's, Kim's other business ventures have included her and her sister's clothing boutique DASH, several Keeping Up spin-offs, a fragrance line, a beauty line, a skincare line, and today, most notably and successfully, her shapewear line Skims, which she launched in 2019.
Kim Kardashian Personal Life
In 2000, when she was 19, Kim eloped with music producer Damon Thomas; the two divorced in 2003. She went on to date football player Reggie Bush for two years, from 2007 to 2009.
Kim got engaged to NBA player Kris in 2011 after they started dating the year prior, and the rise and fall of their relationship and subsequent 72-day marriage was included on Keeping Up.
After her divorce from Kris, Kim started dating longtime friend Kanye West in 2010. The two got engaged three years later, and tied the knot in 2014 in Florence, Italy. The pair welcomed four kids together, North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.
In February of 2021, Kim filed for divorce from Kanye, whose continuous erratic behavior has been of both concern and controversy for several years. Their divorce was finalized in November 2022.
In October of 2016, while she was attending Paris Fashion Week, Kim was robbed at gunpoint by a group of men who entered the Paris apartment she was staying in. In 2017, 16 people were arrested for their alleged involvement.
Following in her father's footsteps, Kim decided to become a lawyer, though by way of "reading law" as opposed to attending law school; in December 2021, on her fourth attempt, she passed the "baby bar," a first-year law exam. Kim has also been an advocate for several causes, including recognition of the Armenian genocide, as well as prison reform and clemency advocacy.
