Greeted by eager teenagers at a celebration for young artists on his last night in Canada, the Prince of Wales promised the crowd he’d send 18-year-old Prince William over as soon as possible.
“He’s got an awful lot to get on with at the moment,” Prince Charles said of his popular elder son. “But certainly I’m sure before long he’ll be here.”
Throughout Canada, Prince Charles was besieged with pleas to ship his heart-throb son across the Atlantic. “I know that they all want to see him here because I keep seeing these signs being held up in the crowd saying: ‘I’m your future daughter-in-law’.”
One such girl, decked in an evening gown and tiara, asked the Prince: “Can I have your blessing to marry your son?” “Pardon me,” he replied, to which she joked, “Is that a yes?”.
At the Tuesday evening gala, his last stop on his six-day swing, the Prince was treated to entertainment including musical performances and a contortionist. “It’s at times like this that I wish I could do something too, like sing or dance or even play something,” Charles said. “I’ve always had a passion to dance like Fred Astaire.”
