At the behest of the Queen, prestigious bank Coutts will install a cash machine inside Buckingham Palace to ease the lives of servants. The royal staff will soon be able to pay their bills and withdraw money from the comfort of the palace.

“It will be most useful for staff who work long hours and particularly for those who live in,” a spokesman for the Queen said. “It will be available to members of the royal household and anyone who has a security pass and their own card.”

When asked whether the Queen herself would use the machine, the spokesman replied: “I don’t know if she has a cashcard but it is available to her.”

A statement from Coutts confirms plans for the hole-in-the-wall machine: “It was a private approach from a senior member of the household. We have been inside the palace and decided it’s a great idea.”

Potential clients of the bank must have at least £500,000 in cash or twice that in assets. Sir Paul McCartney and Sting are among the banks’ reported high profile clients.
