MAXIMA ZORREGUIETA BREAKS HER LEG ON HER FIRST FOREIGN VISIT WITH THE DUTCH ROYAL FAMILY

The fiancée of the Dutch Crown Prince, Maxima Zorreguieta, has broken her leg. The vivacious Argentine, who will marry Willem-Alexander next February, slipped on some wet rocks in Sweden last week, where she was with her future in-laws to celebrate the silver wedding anniversary of Sweden’s King Karl Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

It has also been revealed that the 30-year-old banker, who met her husband-to-be in New York, will be receiving a handsome “salary” once she marries the heir to the throne. The Dutch government has offered Maxima a salary of 1,387,000 guilders – over half a million US dollars – which she will receive once Willem-Alexander has slipped the wedding band on her finger, on February 2, 2002.

However, Maxima will not take the title of queen, even after her husband ascends the throne. She will be known as Princess of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau, or, if she prefers, Mrs. von Amsberg, after her fiance’s father, Claus von Amsberg. It is not known whether this is a reaction to the public debate after the couple announced their engagement, as Maxima’s father served as Argentine Agricultural Minister during the military dictatorship of the Seventies.
