Prince Joachim and Princess Alexandra of Denmark were a picture of family togetherness as they enjoyed a break with their one-year-old son, Nikolai, at the Danish family’s summer residence of Caix Chateau in the south of France this week.
Toddler Prince Nikolai showed that he was already getting the hang of royal duties as he smiled happily while his parents posed for informal photographs amongst the luxurious chateau’s beautiful gardens.
Although Joachim and Alexandra were alone on this short break, Caix Chateau is also a favourite summer retreat of Queen Margrethe and her husband Prince Henrik. The property actually belongs to Joachim’s father, a viticulturalist who takes a keen interest in its idyllic gardens and vineyards, which are renowned for the quality of their wine.
Alexandra, a British-born former businesswoman whom the prince met during a stay in Hong Kong, looked stunning in a simple raspberry pink shirt, and matching wrap-around skirt. Now fluent in Danish and known for her informal manner and natural presence, she is particularly popular with the Danish people.
