The Prince of Wales’s interest in alternative health has long been documented, but this time he is going one step further. The heir to the throne is helping to open an alternative therapy hospital in London, where patients will be treated with acupuncture, homeopathy, Ayurvedic medicine and osteopathy.
Charles has teamed up with famed physician Dr Mosaraf Ali, whose clients beside the Prince include Kate Moss and Geri Halliwell, to raise funds for the hospital, which is due to open by 2004. While the Prince will not be giving financial support, he is expected to help in other ways, perhaps by hosting a dinner to bring in money for the project.
A spokesman for St James’s Palace said: “It is an interesting proposition and they have had private discussions on the matter. The Prince has argued for some time for a greater role for integrated medicine.”
In 1996, the Prince set up the Foundation for Integrated Medicine with a £2 million donation, which is thought to be providing advice for Ali, who once accompanied Camilla Parker Bowles on a trek in the Himalayas to “re-energise” her spirits and encourage her to kick her smoking habit.
