Just before they jetted off to Oslo to enjoy the romantic wedding of Crown Prince Haakon to Mette-Marit Tjessem, the Earl and Countess of Wessex took a trip to England’s West Country. The Queen’s youngest son and his wife have been in the news recently as it was reported that they plan to cut down on their royal engagements and instead concentrate on their careers.

The couple visited Exeter’s Northcott theatre for a performance of The Dreaming, a musical adaptation of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream by the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT). Prince Edward is President of the NYMT, and after the performance, he and his lovely wife met members of the company.

Jeremy James Taylor, the NYMT’s director was delighted at news of the couple’s visit. “Edward is the most supportive president we could wish for,” he said. “He sees everything we do, and has visited us in America and Canada, and now here in Exeter. He and Sophie are great fans and supporters.”

The following day the couple headed up to Malvern; there they visited the Three Counties Summer Show and, as these photos show, Sophie had a close encounter with an owl.
