US President George W Bush addressed the world live from Barksdale Air Force base in Louisiana, commanding the US government to “hunt down and to find” the terrorists reponsible for Tuesday morning's horrific attacks in both New York and Washington DC.
“The resolve of our great nation is being tested,” he said. “We will show this world that we can pass this test.”
“Freedom itself was attacked this morning and I assure you freedom will be defended,” said Bush. “Make no mistake. The United States will hunt down and pursue those responsible for these cowardly actions… We will do whatever is necessary to protect America.”
President Bush had been at a Florida elementary school early on Tuesday morning when a string of terrorist attacks broke out and immediately scrapped his schedule.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is a difficult moment for America,” he said, speaking from the Booker Elementary School. “Today we’ve had a national tragedy. Two airplanes have crashed into the World Trade Center in an apparent terrorist attack on our country. I have spoken to the vice president, to the governor of New York, to the director of the FBI, and I’ve ordered that the full resources of the federal government go to help the victims and their families and to conduct a full-scale investigation to hunt down and to find those folks who committed this act.”
“Terrorism against our nation will not stand,” he said. “And now if you join me in a moment of silence. May God bless the victims, their families and America. Thank you very much.”
