Since their wedding in London two years ago, Princess Alexia, the eldest daughter of the former King of Greece, and her husband Carlos Morales Quintana have often expressed their desire to start a family. Now their wishes have been answered. The couple have joyfully announced they are expecting their first child in February.
The parents-to-be revealed their news in London, where Alexia’s parents, ex-King Constantine and his wife Anne-Marie, live. The former monarch said that he and Anne-Marie are "eagerly looking forward" to the birth of their fourth grandchild.
Thirty-six-year-old Alexia, a children’s therapist, was born and raised in Britain and now lives in Barcelona with her husband, a Spanish-born architect. Her family has strong connections to the British royals; she is the twice-removed first cousin of the Duke of Edinburgh and her wedding to Carlos was attended by both the Queen and the Prince of Wales.
The former king, a godfather to Prince William, and his wife have lived in exile in England for 34 years. The couple fled Greece in 1967 following a military coup and now live in Hampstead, north London.
