Princess Martha Louise of Norway is set to kick off her 30th birthday celebrations on Friday evening with a dinner at the Galleri Nygaten museum in Bergen. One hundred guests are expected at the glittering bash, including Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. Martha Louise has made all the arrangements herself to ensure the soiree goes swimmingly.

Crown Prince Haakon and his bride Mette-Marit, just back in Norway following their honeymoon in the US, will also be on hand to help Martha Louise celebrate. And while the event is sure to be an upbeat affair, the Princess has decided to cancel plans for a post-dinner dance out of respect for the victims of the terrorist attacks in New York. She has also decided against any dancing at another birthday celebration the following evening in the capital’s medieval Haakonshall. Guests will, however, be treated to a scenic boat tour of the city on Saturday afternoon and a concert at the home of the late Norwegian violinist Ole Bull.

Martha Louise, the eldest child of King Harald and Queen Sonia, has also released an autobiography in connection with her 30th celebrations. The book, entitled Underveis or “Along One’s Way” in English, has been called “reflective and well-written” by one newspaper, although others have been less enthusiastic. The work has been criticised for making no mention of Martha Louise’s current flame, controversial writer Ari Behn.

Two photo-filled publications featuring Haakon’s August wedding, which was watched by millions on television, have also just been published. “We were fascinated, like so many others, by these two young people’s love story and the emphasis on how important the church ceremony was for them,” says editor-in-chief of publishing house Genesis, Anne Marit Jordahl.
