Queen Rania of Jordan showed herself a dab hand at the art of pool yesterday as she visited the headquarters of children’s charity in Camberwell, south east London, on Wednesday. The glamorous young royal, who is in the UK with her husband King Abdullah for a three-day official visit, took up a cue when she stopped by Kids Company, a charity that helps vulnerable children.
Dressed in a dark, figure hugging dress, the 31-year-old mother of three also spent some time chatting with youngsters at the centre. She later visited an NSPCC unit in the British capital which investigates paedophile activity and other crimes against the young.
Since she became queen consort of the Hashemite Kingdom, Rania has been a prominent campaigner against child abuse, a subject which is not commonly addressed in the Islamic world, especially by women.
While his wife was demonstrating her pool skills, King Abdullah visited the English university city of Cambridge where he toured several high-tech businesses with the Duke of York. Later that day the Jordanian couple were guests at a Guildhall banquet hosted by the Mayor of London.
On Thursday Queen Rania lunches with the prime minister’s wife Cherie Blair.
