Prince Charles attended church services at the Queen’s Sandringham estate over the weekend with longtime confidante Camilla Parker Bowles for what is believed to be the first time. And while the two were sure to keep their distance from each other, the high-profile Sunday outing is said to be another step towards public acceptance of Charles’s consort.
“Lovely to see you,” one woman called out to Camilla. “Thank you very much,” she replied before entering St Mary Magdalen church. The 54-year-old was one of 12 guests invited by the heir to the throne, including Princess Alexandra and her husband, Sir Angus Ogilvy.
Dressed in a long camel-coloured coat, the Prince walked to church alongside the former King Constantine of Greece. Camilla, in a similar floor-length jacket, stayed back and kept company with a group of female guests. The Queen remained at Windsor over the weekend.
“It’s really lovely to see Camilla and the Prince of Wales in church together,” said one onlooker. “Now that she’s appearing in public with the Prince it’s time for her to be accepted by everybody.”
Camilla has upped her profile considerably of late, having just been promoted to president of the National Osteoporosis Society. She’ll host a gala celebration catered by the staff from Charles’s Highgrove estate for the charity in June. However, there is no word on whether Charles will attend the planned garden party.
