Princess Martha Louise of Norway and writer Ari Behn made their first public appearance since they announced their engagement, attending the Oslo premiere of The Lord Of The Rings.

The only daughter of King Harald and Queen Sonja arrived hand in hand with Ari to the special screening of the film at the Coliseum cinema. Martha Louise, in a violet skirt that matched her beloved’s shirt and tie, smiled warmly at the crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of Norway’s hottest royal couple since Crown Prince Haakon and his wife Mette-Marit.

And as the princess and her fiancé enjoy their engagement, the people of Trondheim, where the two plan to marry on May 24, are gearing up for Norway’s next royal wedding and the excitement that accompanies it. Both of the city’s two main hotels are already solidly booked for that weekend, and the city is abuzz with the thrill of hosting the momentous occasion.

Few details about the Nidaros Cathedral ceremony have emerged, though the palace has confirmed that Bishop Finn Wagle will officiate.

The caretakers of the Stiftsgarden royal mansion in downtown Trondheim are at the ready, should the building be chosen as the site for the traditional wedding dinner and dance. “We don’t know a thing yet,” admitted Stiftsgarden's Jan Slotten to the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten. Nevertheless, the stately 18th-century estate is one of the likely places to hold the gala event, and preparation – just in case – may soon be underway.
