With just two weeks to go before the heir to the Dutch throne embraces married life, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Maxima Zorreguieta have spoken of their future together in a television interview. The couple spoke movingly about their life together, and their hopes and fears – not to mention their opinions on their big day, February 2.

“Although our wedding is, of course, a public wedding, and one which holds a lot of interest for the media, we would like it to be our wedding as far as possible,” said the couple during the TV programme, broadcast on Dutch primetime TV. “But our wedding is not a reality show,” added Willem-Alexander. “It’s my wife and my wedding,” commenting on the fact that the couple will not have television cameras in the church during the service.

Maxima expressed her thoughts as only a soon-to-be 21st-century princess can, one who has seen royal icons such as Princess Diana and Stephanie of Monaco come unstuck in the past. “It is going to be an intimate moment for us that many, many people are going to watch, and that makes it extremely difficult for me,” she said. “Sometimes I say to Alexander, 'Let’s go to Las Vegas and get married there'.”

“And come back as man and wife,” says her future King, with a loving glance.
