Andie MacDowell is following in the footsteps of fellow big screen stars like Martin Sheen and Kiefer Sutherland in taking a break from her film career to take on a starring role in a TV series. The Four Weddings And A Funeral actress is to headline Jo, the pilot for which will be aired stateside in the upcoming year.

The animal lover and Southern belle seems a perfect fit for the role of a North Carolina vet in the drama, which will be produced by US broadcasting company CBS. The project’s southeastern filming location will enable her to continue living in South Carolina, where she shares a home with her husband Rhett Hartzog. The actress and her husband, who have known each other since kindergarten, married last September.

Andie’s new show comes on the heels of her appearance in the critically acclaimed cable TV film Dinner With Friends. She’s also teamed up with British actors Imelda Staunton, Anna Chancellor and Kenny Doughty for Crush, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last month.
