The Queen Mother slipped from a chair in her sitting room at Sandringham on Wednesday, cutting her arm. A doctor has seen the 101-year-old royal, and has said the injury will not interfere with her plans to attend Princess Margaret’s funeral this week.
An ambulance and doctor were called to examine a “flesh wound” caused by the accident. “Her arm has been dressed by the doctor and there is no change to Her Majesty’s plans to travel to Windsor tomorrow afternoon,” said a Clarence House spokeswoman.
A statement early this week from Clarence House said the Queen Mother was “absolutely determined” to attend her younger daughter’s funeral at Windsor on Friday. However, the Queen and Prince Charles reportedly have urged the centenarian not to embark on the journey from Sandringham. “The Queen does not want her to attempt it for the sake of her health,” said one royal source.
Buckingham Palace is expected to announce soon whether the Queen Mum will be able to travel to Windsor to pay her last respects to Princess Margaret, who died last Saturday, aged 71. Should she make the trip, the Queen Mother is likely to go by car, though the Palace has looked at different transportion options, including a helicopter with a specially built ramp.
