New mum Princess Mathilde of Belgium is in Kuala Lumpur on her first overseas visit since giving birth to baby Princess Elisabeth four months ago. Accompanying her husband Crown Prince Philippe as he completes a Malaysian trade mission, the 29-year-old former children’s speech therapist has had her own full programme since the two kicked off a five-day tour on Tuesday.
A glowing Mathilde embarked on a separate programme from her husband, visiting the Tasputra Perkim Centre for disabled children in the Malaysian captial. Dressed in a pink linen jacket and white trousers, she happily greeted the staff and gave hugs to the youngsters who were thrilled to meet a princess. Mathilde has also toured the Salembiere Beauty Centre and met with the country’s Women and Family Development Minister. Humanitarian work is the princess’ main focus on the trip, and she plans to meet with AIDS patients at a local hospital and visit a development project for poor women on Wednesday. In one of their joint engagements, Mathilde and Philippe attended a hockey game for the first time ever in a public capacity, supporting Belgium's hockey team against Pakistan in the tenth Men's Hockey World Cup. Unfortunately for the royal couple, who depart for Brussels on Friday, Belgium lost 2-3.
