In a bid to live a more “independent” life, the Duchess of York plans to leave the home she shares with ex-husband Prince Andrew, according to reports. Sarah is apparently considering renting a £5,000-a-month, four-bedroom home close to Sunninghill, the house where the amicably divorced couple and their two daughters currently reside.

Insiders say the move could take place within a few weeks. “The Duchess has decided to strike out on her own,” said one friend. “Both she and Andrew want to live more independent lives and this is the answer.”

The Duchess' new home is located in Windlesham, Surrey, five miles from the 12-bedroom Sunninghill Estate house, meaning Fergie’s daughters Beatrice, 13, and Eugenie, 11, will continue to live close to their father. The Duchess reportedly wants to live on a smaller scale and plans to have minimal staff, consisting only of a nanny, housekeeper and royal protection officer.

Reports of a new home for Sarah come just one week after she announced she’d made her first real estate purchase, a £2 million villa in Italy, near her close friend Count Gaddo della Gerardesca. She has hopes to turn the Tuscan estate into a health spa and winery, and the Count is assisting with the endeavour. Says Sarah of the sprawling property, which includes seven houses and a fishing lake: “It’s beautiful and I'm very excited about its potential.”
