Blue-blooded royals came from near and far to see a glittering exhibition of tiaras, including one loaned by the Queen, which opened at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum on Wednesday.
In attendance for the gala event were Viscount Linley, Sarah Chatto, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the 81-year-old Duchess of Devonshire, all of whom have loaned their own jewellery for the display. Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia travelled from Paris with his wife for the exhibit, entitled Tiaras.
Wearing a dark-blue suit and matching shoes, the Prince of Wales’ companion Camilla Parker Bowles was given a private walk around the unique collection. “It’s absolutely wonderful,” she said.
Among the 200 pieces on show, highlights include the diamond tiara worn by the Queen at her wedding and the Oriental Circlet designed by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria. Others items have been loaned by pop star Elton John and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood. The new exhibit was launched with a speech by Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley, and actress Joely Richardson was on hand to model one of the tiaras.
Tiaras continues at the V&A until July.
