FUNERAL PROCESSION TIMETABLE

Thousands are expected to line the streets for the Queen Mother's funeral procession and service on Tuesday morning. Here is an abbreviated timetable of events for the historic occasion:

(BST = British Standard Time)

0400 BST - The day begins with procession troops' preparation: reveille and cleaning kit, grooming horses and polishing the gun carriage

0600 BST - Westminster Hall, where the Queen Mother's body is lying in state, officially closes to the public

0910 BST - The military route-lining party – including buglers, ushers, capholders, car door openers and insignia bearers – leaves Wellington Barracks for Deans Yard near the abbey

0945 BST - The doors of Westminster Abbey are opened

1030 BST - The general congregation of 2,100 is seated

1035 BST - Heads of State, National Representatives, Governors-General and other prominent persons arrive at the Great West Door and are conducted by Gentlemen Ushers to their places in the Quire, the Lanterns, and the North Transept

1040 BST - The Bearer Party of the Irish Guards which will carry the coffin arrive at Westminster Hall

1050 BST - A guard of honour is formed in Parliament Square facing the gates of New Palace Yard. Members of the Royal Family walking in the funeral procession arrive and the Dean of Westminster, Dr Wesley Carr, takes up position at the Great West Door

1100 BST - The Royal Family moves to the north east corner of the catafalque where the Queen Mother's coffin rests

1107 BST - Visiting clergy taking part in the funeral service, including Archbishop of Canterbury Dr George Carey, process along the centre aisle of the abbey

1110 BST - The bearer party lifts the coffin from the catafalque and carries it to the gun carriage outside the North Door

1112 BST - The Queen leaves Buckingham Palace and drives by car to Westminster Abbey

1116 BST – The Queen arrives at the West Entrance Gate and is received by the Dean of Westminster. The Dean will conduct Her Majesty to the Great West Door where he presents the Chapter

1118 BST - The royal procession along the abbey's centre aisle begins

1130 BST - Coffin arrives at the Great West Door and the service begins.

1225 BST - Service ends

1230 BST - Coffin placed in hearse

1235 BST - The Car Procession leaves Westminster Abbey for St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle

1245 BST - The Queen and Prince Philip arrive back at Buckingham Palace for an RAF fly-over

1350 BST - Coffin interred in St George's Chapel, Windsor
