Jordan Frieda, son of diminutive Scottish songstress Lulu, has landed the coveted but controversial role of Prince William in an upcoming Fox TV movie about the life of the popular heir to the throne.

Lulu, whose son is her only child by second husband hairdresser John Frieda, said she was "delighted" by the news. “We’re all very excited and I can’t wait to see it,” added the 1969 Eurovision winner.

Meanwhile, Jordan, in an interview for American breakfast TV, was asked whether he thought there would be any criticism when the film was screened.

“Well, hopefully there’ll be a little,” he replied. “I mean you’d be disappointed if there was no response. But I think it will be well taken, knowing what we’re going to do.”

“I think the key is that we’re going to fill in some gaps and actually take a guess at what he (William) might be like in private. So that’s a question for the imagination more than anything else,” continued Jordan.

The film, which is due to hit American screens in October, is said to be a “coming of age” biopic dramatising the life of Prince William from the time of his mother Princess Diana’s death through to the present.

St James’s Palace has already voiced concern over the controversial project. “We think this is deeply insensitive,” said a senior Palace official in March. “Prince William is only 19. We would rather it was not happening.”

Hellomagazine.com readers agreed, voting overwhelmingly against the idea of a biopic on Wills when we asked your opinion.

For Jordan, 24, playing the heir to the throne looks like being his big break after small parts in the war drama, Band Of Brothers and ITV teen series 24Seven.
