The Prince of Wales was among those whe enjoyed performances by Dame Shirley Bassey, Rod Stewart , Diana Ross and a host of other stars at the annual Party In The Park in London's Hyde Park on Saturday.
Charles tapped his hands and feet along with the 50,000 strong audience as Motown diva Diana knocked out a collection of her classic hits, including Chain Reaction, Baby Love, and Keep Me Hanging On The 58-year-old singer then went on to dedicate the song Upside Down to the prince.
“This is dedicated to Prince Charming,” she said, which provoked an immediate smile from Charles. Sitting beside him were actress Joan Collins and Dame Shirley Bassey, who had performed live on stage just before Diana.
Among the other stars on the bill at the concert, which raised £500,000 in aid of the Prince’s Trust, were Gabrielle and Ronan Keating. Afterwards the heir to the throne met the performers backstage, receiving a protocol defying hug from the event’s master of ceremonies, Full Monty star Hugo Speer.
“I imagine he goes to these things a lot and he will be sick and tired of people simply shaking his hand,” the actor said afterwards.
Far from being taken aback, Charles simply grinned and replied: “He never changes.”
