PRINCE WILLIAM BECOMES FIRST ROYAL TO GET 21ST BIRTHDAY STAMP

Most young people get excited about their 21st birthday as the official entry into adulthood, but the not-so-ordinary Prince William has something else to look forward to on his big day next year – his very own postage stamp.

The image of the handsome Prince will appear in the UK on First Class stamps, bearing a value of 27p, and will be available in time for William’s birthday on June 21. Though it’s not the first time the 20-year-old has graced a stamp – he appeared on a special miniature for the late Queen Mother’s 100th birthday in 2000 – the occasion will mark the first time the Royal Mail has issued a stamp to commemorate a royal “coming of age”.

“We are confident there will be enormous worldwide interest from the public and collectors alike,” says managing director of Royal Mail Stamps and Collectibles Gavin Macrae. “This Royal issue follows a long tradition of commemorative stamps produced to celebrate special events in the life of the Queen and immediate members of the Royal Family.”

They haven’t yet been designed, but Wills’s stamps – as are all royal commemorative stamps – will be subject to the Queen’s final approval.
