Just five months after Norway’s Martha Louise thrilled royal-watchers with her romantic wedding to writer Ari Behn, it has been revealed that the princess is expecting her first child at the end of April.
Impending motherhood isn’t slowing down the vivacious Martha Louise. The official statement announcing the pregnancy said that she was in top form and would not be altering her schedule of Christmas concerts - she is due to appear as guest singer with the Oslo Gospel Choir for a fortnight of performances in the run-up to Christmas.
The news will have come as a delight to King Harald and Queen Sonja, who will become biological grandparents for the first time. Their son, Crown Prince Haakon, is married to Mette-Marit Hoiby, whose little boy Marius - from a previous relationship - is a general favourite. However, although he is very much part of the family, he has no claim to the throne.
Martha Louise and Ari are to make their first public appearance since the news emerged at an official dinner Tuesday night.
