Princess Diana's mother, Frances Shand Kydd, has appealed for her stolen jewellery to be returned after revealing on Sunday that none of the items had been insured.
"I do not want to say why they were not insured - it is a private matter; but I am afraid they were not," she said. The jewellery was stolen from Mrs Kydd's remote cottage on Seil Island, near Oban, while she was giving evidence in London at the trial of her late daughter's butler on Friday.
While most of her jewels were taken, her most treasured piece - a sapphire and ruby ring made specially to commemorate the lives of Diana and her eldest son John, who died shortly after birth - was with her in London. She "thanked God" that she'd taken it with her, adding: "That ring is most precious because of its memories."
Mrs Shand Kydd says that she has been "overwhelmed" by the hundreds of messages of sympathy following the burglary. "I just hope that the thieves will feel they will not be happy wearing jewellery that has so many memories. I appeal to them to please give it back."
