As the fallout from Paul Burrell's high profile acquittal continues in the UK, Princess Diana's former butler has taken his story stateside. After publishing his account in a series of sensational interviews with a British newspaper, Burrell and his family have flown to New York City, where he is once again speaking about the saga.
During a NY press conference on Monday, Burrell told reporters that financial gain was not his intention in revealing details of his relationship with the Princess and the items he was accused of stealing from her estate. "Telling my story was never about money," he said. "It was truth and justice and telling it honestly and properly."
Despite a backlash he called "vicious and personal", the former servant revealed: "I have no regrets about a single word I have said because I have told the truth and defended my reputation."
And it seems the fervour created in the UK over the continuing saga has caught the attention of the American public as well. After reading the prepared statement, Burrell, his wife Maria and his two teenaged sons drew throngs of photographers and onlookers as they visited the city's famous Times Square.
This week Burrell is reportedly due to appear on a series of US television programmes, including popular breakfast show Good Morning America and 20/20, a news show, during which he will chat with celebrity interviewer Barbara Walters.
