The tabloid sting that put an end to the Countess of Wessex's public relations career, may yet be the downfall of her company, too. The business has never recovered from the scandal, in which tabloid reporters disguised as sheikhs duped Sophie and her business partner.
The company R-JH has just posted accounts showing that its value has fallen over 50 per cent since the fiasco, and it now has just £800 in the bank, compared with £138,000 before the row.
Sophie found herself in hot water after telling the supposed clients that her royal connections could open doors for them. The countess' comments were subsequently published in the press and Sophie was forced to give up work at the company, while her business partner Murray Harkin moved to Australia.
It seems R-JH has never recovered. The company was last month fined for failing to file its accounts and when they were delivered – some two months late – they showed a firm in dire financial straits.
