Norway's King Harald has decided that his new grandchild, expected to be born in the next few weeks, will not receive a royal title. Princess Martha Louise and Ari Behn's new baby will join the order of accession to the throne, however.
And in another break from tradition, Martha Louise has decided not to have the baby delivered by the royal physician. It is not known why the mum-to-be changed her mind, though hospital authorities insist the decision was reached by agreement.
She and Ari are planning to spend the Easter break in Lillehammer, so there is also some uncertainty as to where the baby will be born. "If the birth starts during the princess' Easter holiday, a medical evaluation will be taken about whether she should give birth at Lillehammer's Innlandet hospital or be taken to Oslo," said National Hospital Medical Director Tore Henriksen.
The palace has revealed that the Norwegian flag will be flown at public buildings on the day of the birth, but the baby's birthday will not be a public flag day.
