Pop idols, movie stars and supermodels joined three generations of Monaco's royal family this weekend during one of the tiny principality's most glamorous times of the year.
Prince Rainier celebrated his 80th birthday in style, enjoying a quiet luncheon with his children and grandchildren, and then stepping into the spotlight to hand the Monaco Grand Prix trophy to Colombian race car driver Juan Pablo Montoya.
Rainier, who has suffered from ill health in recent years, appeared to be in good spirits at the podium, surrounded by his family. Prince Albert and Princess Caroline – who was accompanied by husband Prince Ernst of Hanover – were centre stage alongside their father, and Caroline's three stylish children, Charlotte, Andrea and Pierre, took supporting roles.
The Mediterranean hotspot saw a number of glitzy celebs jet in for the busy weekend, including fashion icons Heidi Klum, Elle MacPherson and Naomi Campbell. A host of big names from the UK – including boy band Blue, 'It' girl Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and TV star Amanda Holden – were also on hand, spotted making the rounds at pre-Grand Prix celebrations.
