Former US president Bill Clinton has proved his love for picturesque Ireland buy buying a home in County Kildare. The keen golfer is looking forward to easy days spent on the spectacular K Club golf course, where he has purchased an £800,000 duplex apartment.
The price includes lifetime membership of the exclusive course, which will host the 2006 Ryder Cup. It is thought to be the first time a US president has bought a property outside of North America, and local residents are eagerly looking forward to the politician's arrival.
"People are pleased," said Sean Ashe, chairman of the local development association. "I think Irish people in general have a positive attitude towards the man and the work he did when he was president. That goodwill is still there for him."
Bill, who has often referred to Ireland as his second home, can also count on some capable company when he heads out for a round, as Tiger Woods and Mark O'Meara are both regular visitors. And should he find himself yearning for some political debate, George Bush Sr enjoys fishing trips to the region.
During his presidency Mr Clinton, who is descended from a family in Roslea, County Fermanagh, made an unprecedented three official visits to Ireland.
