It is widely accepted that the Royal Family is one of Britain's biggest and most important tourist attractions. But it seems another of the UK's great institutions, Madame Tussaud's waxworks, feels the Windsor clan could do with a bit of streamlining.
Because the world famous attraction, based in the heart of the British capital, has decided to do away with Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, Sophie Wessex and Princess Anne. It is the first time in two centuries that the royal section in Madame Tussaud's will be without members of the immediate family.
The move is part of a drive to make the waxworks less "worthy but dull". Bosses at Madame Tussaud's have also decided to leave Conservative Party leader Iain Duncan Smith out of their line-up of inanimate guests, though Prince William is set to make his debut sometime soon.
"We sent out a lot of questionnaires and asked people who they wanted to see," explained a spokesman. "I am afraid there wasn't much interest in all the members of the Royal Family. Visitors told us they wanted something more modern, like David Beckham."
The venue is also planning to include more live action features, following the success of the interactive celebrity party "Blush", which offered visitors the opportunity to fondle Brad Pitt's bum.
