Prince Charles got into the mood by donning a kilt when he attended the Mey Highland Games at the weekend. And the 54-year-old, who was accompanied by his longtime companion Camilla Parker Bowles, also brought along a traditional shepherd's crook.
The Prince certainly looked to be enjoying himself, as he and Camilla watched a series of traditional Highland sports. He was also on hand to start the tug-of-war competition, which was eventually won by the Castle of Mey team.
From a small marquee filled with local dignataries, Charles and Camilla witnessed traditional Highland dancing and, of course, the tossing the caber event. They then did a lap of the field in their car, so as not to disappoint hundreds of wellwishers who turned out in the hope of seeing them.
Charles is currently staying at the Castle of Mey in Caithness, which the Queen Mother used to use as a holiday retreat. His visit comes just after he moved into her former residence, Clarence House, in London. And he is also following in his grandmother's footsteps by attending the Games, as she was a big fan in her time.
