The heir to the Jordanian throne, Crown Prince Hamzah, has married his fiancée, Princess Noor Bint Asem Ben Nayef, in a small family ceremony at Al Baraka palace.

The crown prince's half-brother King Abdullah II and his wife Queen Rania were on hand for the landmark occasion, as was the 23-year-old royal's mother – who shares the same first name as the bride – Queen Noor.

Twenty-year-old Princess Noor, who was born in Amman, studied at King's College in Spain before continuing her education in the US. Crown Prince Hamzah – the son of Queen Noor and the late King Hussein – graduated from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst and is a Jordan Armed Forces Captain.

The royal newlyweds will hold an official wedding ceremony in the future.

Hamzah became heir to the throne in 1999, when newly-crowned King Abdullah officially named the then 18-year-old as his successor, days after their father's death.
