Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip were met with cheers and applause on Saturday as they attended the famed Braemar Gathering in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, six miles from Balmoral.
The yearly event was held under sunny skies, with more than 18,000 attending the festivities. The spectators included two special guests, Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie, who joined the monarch and the kilt-clad Duke of Edinburgh in the Royal Enclosure.
However, the Blairs, who stepped out of their car hand-in-hand upon their arrival, received a markedly mixed greeting as they took their seats - a small section of the crowd was briefly heard booing the couple before the games got underway. While Mr Blair seemed unaffected by the reception, secretary of the Braemar Gathering Willie Meston did comment, calling the jeers a case of "bad manners".
The Prince of Wales, meanwhile, was absent from the day's events "due to other commitments in his diary", and instead remained at Highgrove. Prince Charles and his companion, Camilla Parker Bowles, were scheduled to leave on a private holiday on Sunday.
