In 1981 five-year-old Clementine Hambro walked down the aisle carrying Lady Diana Spencer's train at the royal wedding of the century. Now the 27-year-old socialite is to be a bride herself, when she ties the knot with American financier and travel writer Bartle Bull.
"I'm very, very happy," says Clementine. "I don't really know what I will do about the dress; I think I may design it myself. I'm not going to have one like Diana's – I'd prefer something a little more 21st century, and a little smaller."
Clemmie, as she is known to friends, was Diana's favourite pupil at the Young England kindergarten where the Princess-to-be taught until her marriage. She is to marry New York-based Bartle in May at her family's country seat, Waverton House in Gloucestershire.
The bride-to-be's father, Richard Hambro is thrilled by the news of the impending nuptials. "Bartle has wonderful old-fashioned manners," he told The Telegraph. "He flew over from New York especially to ask my permission."
