Princess Stephanie of Monaco has continued her tireless efforts to combat AIDS by supporting a fundraising dinner in Monaco.
The princess attended the Monaco AIDS Association's "AIDS Party 03" in her role as president of Women Facing AIDS, the charity she established with her brother Prince Albert. At the centre of the schedule was an auction of artworks, signed and donated by their creators. Pieces by David Bailey, Karl Lagerfeld, Helmut Newton and Tony Ward were among those going under the hammer.
"Women Facing AIDS works closely with Monaco AIDS to help the increasing number of people who are affected by this disease," said Stephanie. "Our efforts to prevent, publicise and give support to sufferers are aimed particularly at women. The fight against AIDS and the fight for the emancipation of women go hand-in-hand.
"In 2002, the World Health Organisation estimated that half the seropositive people in the world were women. In France in 2000, 52 per cent of those who tested positive were women. These women, who are fighting the disease today, are the first line of an epidemic."
