Charles and Camilla receive Scottish welcome

Prince Charles and his companion Camilla Parker Bowles were the hosts with the most at a garden party in Edinburgh on Tuesday. As a brass band played in the background, the pair mingled with some 250 guests at the Palace of Holyroodhouse near the Scottish capital.

The bash was thrown to congratulate doctors, nurses and other workers for their contribution to Scottish health service.

Camilla, who has become increasingly stylish since stepping out with the Prince of Wales on official occasions, was stunning in a tailoreed white suit and striking floral hat. She looked to be thoroughly enjoying herself as she laughed and chatted with guests. Charles also had reason to smile, having received an honorary degree from Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama earlier in the day.

The pair's visit to Scotland came as the former Archbishop of Canterbury said they should be allowed to tie the knot. "He is heir to the throne and he loves her," declared Lord Carey. "The natural thing is that they should get married."

Recognising that their love for each other had endured through their marriages to other people, the former Anglican leader argued that both Charles and Camilla were only human. "That's part of the fallibility of the human condition," he said.

Camilla was obviously very much at home with her new role as she met with guests at the event. After arriving together, she and Charles went their separate ways to mingle with as many people as possiblePhoto: © PA
