Camilla Parker Bowles was on sparkling form when she arrived at the Prince of Wales Theatre for a fundraising royal gala performance of the hit West End musical Mamma Mia! with Prince Charles.

Wearing a thoroughly regal full-length aquamarine gown with a striking pearl and blue stone choker, reminiscent of one of Diana’s favourite pieces, the Prince’s companion appeared delighted by the cheers from hundreds of well-wishers outside the theatre.

Clearly at ease and enjoying the evening, Camilla smiled broadly throughout and was happy to pose with Charles and two members of the original supergroup Abba, on whose songs the musical is based.

The couple’s outing came on the evening of the day when Charles’s mother-in-law, Frances Shand Kydd, was laid to rest in Oban, Scotland. At her express wish, Charles did not attend the ceremony. His sons Princes William and Harry both interrupted trips abroad in order to attend and were visibly affected by the loss of their maternal grandmother.

Prince Charles, sporting a blue handkerchief in his breast pocket which combined well with Camilla’s outfit, officially reopened the Prince of Wales Theatre after its £7.5-million refit during the evening’s activities. The gala performance which he and his companion enjoyed raised £100,000 for his Prince’s Trust.
